With a backdrop of increasing concern over the role of refrigerants and global climate change, increased demand for natural refrigerants, as well as new regulations and market developments expected over the coming months, the European ATMOsphere Workshop on Natural Refrigerants gathered for the first time in the U.S., meeting in Washington D.C., June 12-14. EOS’ Jeff Cohen presented opening remarks on leveraging carbon finance for advanced refrigeration/AC, to an audience of approximately 300 industry leaders. There is tremendous momentum among food manufacturers and retailers who are investing in more sustainable refrigeration technologies in the U.S. — some of the largest end-users have made commitments to move out of HFCs to hydrocarbons, CO2, or ammonia, including PepsiCo, Unilever, Coca Cola. Manufacturers of air conditioning and refrigeration systems and the various components are moving fast to meet the demands of customers. Government, researchers, NGOs, and industry continue to collaborate on establishing safety/efficiency standards (UL, DOE), developing and reviewing alternatives (EPA SNAP), data collection and exchange (EPA GreenChill). A key imperative is to create a large enough pool of technicians with proper training to install and service the new equipment.
ATMOsphere targets global decision makers from leading retailers, suppliers, technology providers, and industry associations. Click here for the full conference program.
